Pushing their book.

Pushing their method.

Pushing their podcast.

“I found the answer!”

“Do like this!”

Today there are a LOT of self-professed happiness gurus out there, pushing THEIR answer to life's mysteries.

Yes, yes, I realize that I could be considered to be one of them…

So, how to verify if I or someone else is the real deal?

My answer?

Check their intention.

What is driving them to do what they do?

As in, what do they care about THE MOST at the end of the day?

YOU reaching YOUR goals? Or money?

Did you enter your credit card information and then get left on your own, destined to become one of the 94% who DON’T complete the amazing “this is what you need to do-thing” you just bought? (Yes, the self-help industry average for people completing their self-study programs is apparently 6%.)

Do they walk the talk?

Like, do they claim to be enlightened but then when they found out that they got moved from business class to coach they lost their mind? Do they claim to know their shadows and demons but suddenly snap when someone steps on one of their sensitive toes?

Craving attention?

If they claim it isn’t, check how much they need to talk versus how much they can listen, or how well they do in a room where they DON’T get to be the center of attention. If they can put YOU center stage I’d say it’s a safe bet they aren’t driven by a NEED to peddle their goods.

Is it about YOU or THEM?

Check all these carefully and if your gut feels something isn’t right, go with your gut… 🙂

Have a blessed day.
